We proudly present the speakers of this years event and want to thank these following business leaders for their support.

Walter Köbele, Chairman of the Board of Management, Pfizer Deutschland GmbH / Pfizer GmbH

Walter Köbele, born in 1948, was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board for Pfizer Deutschland GmbH and Pfizer GmbH in June 2002. In 2002 he also became a member of the Pfizer European Leadership Team - a group responsible for European strategic decisions. Köbele joined the Pfizer group on 1983 as Group Product Manager and Pharmaceutical Marketing Manager and became a member of the executive board in 1994 with responsibility for marketing and sales.
He was appointed General Manager in 2000.He began his career in the pharmaceutical industry as product manager/senior product manager under the joint venture Glaxo/Merck and later joined GfK-Nuremberg as a market researcher and project manager. Previously Köbele, after training as industrial sales representative, had gone on to successfully complete a business studies degree course at Munich University of Applied Sciences.

Dr. Jürgen Meffert, Director McKinsey&Company

Dr. Jürgen Meffert is a Director of the management consultancy McKinsey & Company, Inc. He joined the Firm in 1990 in Düsseldorf, Germany, and later spent several years at the Atlanta office. Before coming to McKinsey, he worked for Nixdorf Computer AG, first as a development engineer in Paderborn, Germany, and later as a product manager in Boston. He left Nixdorf for the Open Software Foundation (OSF), where he was a member of the start-up team in Cambridge, Massachussetts. Dr. Meffert studied electronics in Aachen und Munster, both in Germany; earned an MBA at the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University; and completed his doctoral studies at the University of St. Gallen, in Switzerland.
His current areas of focus are corporate strategy, organization, innovation and technology management, and operational improvement programs for international organizations in the high tech, telecommunications, and automotive industries. He led McKinsey's Innovation and Technology Management Practice in Germany for several years, and is the co-initiator and leader of the "Mittelstand" initiative, which seeks to use expert networks and know-how to support the development of German small and mid-sized companies. Along with intensive work with individual clients, the program includes the placement platform "MittelstandPlus," which identifies highly qualified experts to serve on the advisory and supervisory boards of SMEs on a pro bono basis (with 132 successful placements so far). A second initiative component is "Unternehmertum Deutschland" or "Entrepreneurship in Germany," the largest survey to date on success factors for industrial SMEs (defined as companies with revenues of EUR 50 million to 3 billion).
Dr. Meffert has published a number of articles and several books, including Durchstarten zur Spitze: McKinseys Strategien für Innovation (To the Top: McKinsey's Strategies for Increasing Innovation; Kluge, Eglau, and Meffert, Stein; 2000) and the Handbuch Strategisches Management (Strategic Management Handbook; Hungenberg and Meffert, 2003).

Dr. Theodor Weimer, Goldman Sachs

Theodor is a Managing Director in the Investment Banking Division of the Frankfurt office. Theodor is leading the Financial Services Business for the German speaking countries. He joined Goldman Sachs in 2001 as a Managing Director and became Partner in 2004.
Prior to joining the firm, Theodor worked for seven years as a partner of Bain & Company, where he finally served as a director (senior partner) and member of Bain & Company’s Global Management Committee. Prior to his career at Bain & Company, Theodor worked for seven years at McKinsey & Company.
Theodor earned an M.A. in Economics, Business Administration and Geography in 1984 at the University of Tuebingen (Germany), where he was awarded best graduate of that year. He was promoted to Dr. rer. pol. (magna cum laude) in 1987 at the University of Bonn (Germany). He and his wife, Silke, have two children and live in Wiesbaden.

Prof. Dr. Peter Witt, WHU Koblenz

Dr. Peter Witt is the Otto Beisheim Professor of Entrepreneurship and the academic director of the center for family owned businesses at WHU, Otto Beisheim Graduate School of Management in Vallendar. He holds a degree in economics from the University of Bonn. He received his Ph.D. degree in business administration in 1996 at WHU and his habilitation degree from Humboldt University in 2002. Professor Witt’s research interests are entrepreneurial finance, company valuation, and corporate governance. He has published in refereed academic journals like Management International Review, Entrepreneurship & Regional Development, and R&D Management.

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger von Rosen, Managing Director of the Deutsche Aktieninstitut e.V.

Prof. Dr. Rüdiger von Rosen is managing director of the Deutsche Aktieninstitut e.V. (DAI) in Frankfurt since 1995. After being assistant at the Institut für Kapitalmarktforschung (Institute for Capital Market Research) from 1970 until 1973, he became management assistant of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Wertpapiersparen. In 1974 he started his career at the Deutsche Bundesbank (German Central Bank), where he became head of the President’s office in 1980 and as of 1984 head of the press- and information department. End of 1986 he was appointed executive vice chairman of the Federation of the German Stock Exchanges. From 1990 until 1993 he was speaker of the executive board of Frankfurter Wertpapierbörse AG (later Deutsche Börse AG).
Professor von Rosen is lecturer at the Goethe-University in Frankfurt and is author and editor of numerous books and publications inter alia on Capital Market Policy, Equity and Social Policy, Corporate Governance, Corporate Law. He is also honorary consul of Latvia.

Cyriac Roeding, Senior VP, CBS Paramount Digital Media

Cyriac Roeding serves as Vice President Wireless at CBS Broadcasting (VIA-B) in Los Angeles, a Fortune 500 company. He is responsible for building the mobile entertainment business of the largest U.S. television network. Previously Cyriac Roeding led 12snap from co-founding in 1999 to profitability and 85 employees in Germany, UK, Scandinavia, Italy und Austria in 2004. 12snap is the market leader in Europe for mobile marketing und mobile entertainment. Investors are, among others, Nokia, Vodafone and Apax Partners. Cyriac Roeding was responsible in the executive board for the group revenues, core clients such as Coca-Cola, adidas and L’Oréal, and for the development of the business model. Before that, he developed growth strategies at McKinsey & Company for global media, software and high-tech players in Europe and in Silicon Valley. Roeding is co-autor of the McKinsey/Harvard management book Secrets on Software Success, published by Harvard Business School Press in Boston, and translated to Mandarin, Korean, Italian and German. At Roland Berger Strategy Consultants he led projects in Japan, Germany and the U.S. in the retail sector, and before that as a TV and radio journalist and presenter. He received a Masters degree in Engineering & Business Administration from Karlsruhe, Germany, an MBA in Corporate Strategy and Entrepreneurship from the University of Georgia, and studied Japanese management at Sophia University in Tokyo. In 2001 Cyriac Roeding was elected as Chairman Europe of the global “Mobile Marketing Association” (MMA). In 2003 and 2004 he received the first Lion Awards ever for mobile concepts at the most prestigious global creative competition in Cannes.

Dr. Michael Klemm, Partner of Deutsche Post World Net Inhouse Consulting

Since 2003 Dr. Michael Klemm works for Deutsche Post World Net Inhouse Consulting the internal top management consultancy of Deutsche Post. As a partner Michael has the overall responsibility for his projects and the client relationship. In addition, he is involved in the development of Inhouse Consulting which is now becoming present in all major regions. Michael is specialized on DHL (the Express and Logisitics Business Unit of Deutsche Post World Net) related projects such as the development of a regional strategy or integration projects in the US and Europe. Before joining Deutsch Post World Net Inhouse Consulting he worked for a Private Equity Firm which was specialized on mid size industrial companies as an investment manager. He led several investment projects. His responsibility included also the negotiations and the management of lawyers, auditors and tax advisors. Previously to that position Michael worked at McKinsey & Company in Frankfurt from 1996 to 2000. He was specialized in core process redesign, procurement and product development. He led several international projects mostly for industrial clients, e.g. automotive OEMs. Michael studied Mathematics and Physics at the University of Mainz, Germany and McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario.

John Chapman, General Partner, Techno Venture Management (TVM)

Bringing 16 years of international M&A experience, John Chapman joined TVM in April 2000. As part of the ICT team, he is focused on investments in Enterprise Software. For TVM he led the investment in Swissrisk AG (Zurich) and assisted with the investment in Impress Software AG (Hannover), where in both cases he sat on the company boards. He also led the investment in and sits on the board of iTAC Software AG (Dernbach).
Furthermore, Mr. Chapman advises TVM portfolio companies regarding potential acquisitions and trade sales. Since 2000, Mr. Chapman has advised on 2 acquisitions and 6 trade sales for TVM portfolio companies.
Prior to TVM, Mr. Chapman worked for Paribas where he built up the bank's Mergers & Acquisition operations in Germany. Under his management the Paribas team took on a position among the top ten banks in M&A in Germany by transaction volume.
Mr. Chapman holds an MBA from Kellogg Graduate School of Management (USA) and has completed programs at ESSEC (F) and the London School of Economics (UK).

Michael Reitermann, President of Siemens Molecular Imaging Division, Siemens Medical Solutions

Michael Reitermann’s passion for science and technology has driven his extensive career with Siemens. As president of the Siemens Medical Solutions new Molecular Imaging Division, and president of the former Nuclear Medicine Division since July 2002, Reitermann is responsible for the establishment and implementation of the Molecular Imaging Division’s business objectives around the world, as well as the division’s overall financial performance.
Reitermann has enjoyed a long career with Siemens, including serving as vice president for sales, marketing and innovation of the Siemens Angiography and X-ray Division (AX). In this position, Reitermann was responsible for product definition and worldwide marketing and promotion of Siemens AX products, including the successful AXIOM product line. From 1996 to 1998, he also served as a partner in Siemens Management Consulting, conducting consulting projects in the areas of benchmarking, strategy and productivity. Prior to 1996, Reitermann worked as a consultant, then a senior project manager at the corporate strategies division of Siemens Corporate Planning and Development.
Educated at Hans-Grueninger-Gymnasium in Markgroeningen, Germany, Reitermann received a graduate degree in industrial engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany, and a master’s of business administration from the University of British Columbia, Canada.

Rudolf Wötzel, Lehman Brothers, Managing Director, Head of German M&A

Rudolf Woetzel is a Managing Director and Head of M&A for German speaking counties at Lehman Brothers. Rudolf joined the firm in 2005. Prior to Lehman Brothers, Rudolf worked for seven years at Deutsche Bank as a Managing Director in German M&A execution and Head of Swiss M&A. Prior to his role at Deutsche Bank, Rudolf worked for UBS and Booz Allen Hamilton, where he also focused on M&A.
Rudolf advised in a variety of landmark transactions including Lufthansa’s takeover of Swiss International Air Lines, INA’s unrecommended takeover offer for FAG Kugelfischer, the taking-private and subsequent break-up of Schmalbach and Varta and several public transactions in Switzerland.
Rudolf earned a Diploma in Business Administration at the University of Munich and an MBA at INSEAD.

W. David Braun, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the German American Chamber of Commerce

W. David Braun is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the German American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest. He is a partner in the law firm Gardner Carton & Douglas, and acts as legal counsel to over sixty German companies with business operations or business interests in the United States. At the beginning of his career he worked in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and was responsible for its working relationship with the German Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt).
Gardner Carton & Douglas LLP is a law firm with over 250 attorneys. The main office is in Chicago. Other offices are in Washington, D.C., Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Albany, New York. Gardner Carton & Douglas has represented German clients in the US for over 40 years.

Egon Kochanke, Head of the Economic Department, German Embassy Washington DC.

Since August 2005 Egon Kochanke has been Minister and Head of the Economic Department at the German Embassy in Washington, DC. Previously, he served as Head of Export Control Division II in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. In prior positions Mr. Kochanke was, among others, Minister Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in Tel Aviv and Political Counsellor at the German Embassy in London. Mr. Kochanke joined the Federal Foreign Office in 1980 after studying history, political sciences, sociology and law at the Universities of Bonn and Freiburg i.Br. He is married and has two sons

Ambassador J.D. Bindenagel, former U.S. deputy chief of mission at the American Embassy in Bonn and Berlin, East Germany from 1994 until the reunification

J.D. Bindenagel, Vice President for Community, Government, and International Affairs, is responsible for deepening connections between DePaul University's Chicago and overseas campuses and communities. These local, global, and government relationships support DePaul University's mission to prepare students not only to better understand, but also to influence and shape the world in which they live.
Ambassador J. D. Bindenagel, a 28-year veteran of the U.S. diplomatic corps brings extensive experience in governmental and international affairs to his new post. Prior to joining DePaul University, he was vice president for program at the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations. President Clinton appointed him in 1999 as U.S. ambassador and special envoy for Holocaust issues. As ambassador he provided policy, diplomatic and negotiating advice to the Secretary of State on World War II-era forced labor, insurance, art, property restitution, and Holocaust education and remembrance. He played an instrumental role in the negotiations that led to agreements in 2001 securing $6 billion in payments from Germany, Austria, and France for Holocaust and other Nazi victims.
A U.S. Army veteran, he also served the State Department in Washington, D.C. and Germany in various capacities from 1975 to 2003. He was director for Central European Affairs in the Bureau of European and Canadian Affairs at the State Department from 1992 to 1994 and U.S. charge d'affaires and deputy chief of mission in Bonn, Germany, from 1994 to 1997. He was U.S. deputy chief of mission at the American Embassy in Berlin, East Germany at the time of the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and helped negotiate the reunification of Germany.
Other Foreign Service assignments included head of the embassy political affairs unit in Bonn in the mid 1980s, when he helped pave the way for the deployment of U.S. Pershing missiles on German soil. Ambassador Bindenagel was special U.S. negotiator for “Conflict Diamonds,” leading a U.S. government interagency group to create a certification process to prevent proceeds from sales of illicit rough “conflict” diamonds from financing insurrections against legitimate governments in Africa. He also was an American Political Science Association fellow with Congressman Lee H. Hamilton (1987-1988) and was Director, Business-Government Programs For Rockwell International (1991-1992).
Ambassador Bindenagel received the State Department’s Distinguished Service Award in 2001, the Commander’s Cross of the Federal Order of Merit from the President of Germany in 2001, and the Presidential Meritorious Service Award from President George W. Bush in 2002.
Ambassador Bindenagel holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Senior Associate Dean Kathleen Hagerty, Kellogg School of Management

Kathleen Hagerty is the First Chicago Distinguished Professor of Finance and the co-director of the Financial Institutions and Markets Research Center.
Professor Hagerty has published widely in finance and economics journals. Her work has studied the micro-structure of securities markets, disclosure regulation, insider trading regulation and the effectiveness of self-regulatory organizations. She received a Bradley Foundation Research Fellowship and received the D.P. Jacobs Prize for the Most Significant Paper in the Journal of Financial Intermediation.
She has been a member of the editorial board of the Review of Financial Studies and the Journal of Financial Market. She received her Ph.D. from Stanford University.
